It is found the leaves of the wintergreen plant (Gaultheria procumbens) and is also found in the oil of birch and some other plants. It is commonly used as a flavoring and fragrance ingredient in a wide variety of products, such as candies, mints, mouthwash, and topical pain relievers. It is also used in perfumes and toiletries, as well as in the production of salicylic acid, which is used in making aspirin and other medications.
